The following is a guide for purchasing uniforms and equipment recommended by the B.G.H.G.
-Officer’s and Senior NCO’s Uniform Requirements-
Richmond Type Shell Jacket W/Virginia State, Block ‘C’ or CSA buttons
Preferred: Cadet Gray, Optional: Richmond Gray or Butternut
Gray Sky-Blue Infantry or Mounted Trousers
Optional: Period Civilian Trousers
Headgear: Brass or Embroider Sabers and ‘22’ Numerical Insignia Preferred: Felt Hat (Black/Gray or Brown) w/Hat Cord and Virginia State Seal or Starburst hatpin with Black plume Optional: Plain Richmond Gray Kepi or Officer’s Kepi
Jefferson Brogans with Smooth-side Leather or Era Cavalry Boots
One Regulation, White Muslin Shirt (May have Homespun for other Shirts)
Wool Socks Muslin Underwear
Rank Collar insignia or sleeve rank (Chicken guts) (NCO Chevrons) Red Sash for officers/Maroon sash for NCO’s
-Officer’s Armament and Accoutrements-
Sword Belt W/Virginia State or CSA Double Belt Plate.
Cavalry Sword
Holster Spare Cylinder Box
1858 Army Remington Revolver (Officers) or any revolver appropriate to the Civil War Historical Period.
For NCOs B.G.H.G. preferred 1853 Three-Band or 1858 Two-Band Enfield Rifle
Two Spare Cylinders: Optional
Canteen with Dark Blue/Gray/None or Sky Blue Cover
Common Canvas Haversack or equivelent i.e. captured Yankee Meechum or carpetbag, etc.
